Energid Technologies Awarded Navy Contract To Develop Technologies For Robot Control

Cambridge, Massachusetts (August 23, 2007) — Energid has been awarded a Phase I contract by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) to develop new technologies for controlling robots in field operations. The ability to control current mobile robots is limited due to the complexity of the systems and the environment. This makes tasks that are simple for humans, such as opening doors or picking up tools, difficult for teleoperated robots. Energid will develop new, intuitive methods for controlling robots and will add haptic (force) feedback and stereo vision to the OCU to enhance the environmental awareness of the operator. Energid’s robot control software, Actin, will be used to control the robot in complex ways through simple, high-level commands by the operator.
