Energid Technologies was awarded follow-on funding to continue work on the Haptics Optional Surgical Training System (HOSTS) being developed for the Army. The HOSTS system is a training platform suitable for teaching decision making and surgical procedures. Using a flexible XML-based language, all aspects of the training system can be configured-from GUI components to virtual models to metrics. The flexibility makes is easy to add new training scenarios for different procedures. Energid has focused on open splenectomy and a nerve block procedures thus far and plans to add new scenarios and features throughout the year.
